What better way to view Port Adelaide’s wonderful wall art than by bicycle? Recently we rode this six kilometre flat and easy loop to take in over twenty-five examples of the best of the area’s street art.
I’ve provided the map of the short loop around the Port below (largely derived from the Wonder Walls Map of 2017 ) with the art walls indicated as Points of Interest. To make the loop longer, many of us rode from home.
Here are some of my favourite pictures from the day, mostly in the order that the wall art appears on the loop. Of course, the street art shown here is only a small sample of the many hidden gems in the area.
PichiAvo
Early in the loop, we came to this work by PichiAvo, a duo of artists from Valencia (Spain).
I wonder how long it will be before the adjacent vacant block will be built on?
Natalia Rak
Here we are pausing at a work by Natalia Rak, a world-renowned street artist based in Poland.
SpinFX
This veritable garden of Eden by SpinFX, situated behind the Port Adelaide Uniting Church, provided an ideal opportunity for our group photo of the day.
SpinFX are award winning community artists, based in Port Adelaide.
Vans the Omega
These lovers by Vans the Omega are on the south wall of Valentino Pizza.
Vans the Omega is an international artist, mostly based in Adelaide.
Mimby Jones
Mimby Jones Robinson, currently living in Melbourne, is an Australian artist specialising in large scale colourful murals and street art.
Kyle Hughes-Odgers
This art work is easy to miss, as there are often cars parked in front of it.
Kyle Hughes-Odgers is an internationally known Australian visual artist, working across various formats.
Smug One
This terrific wall art is hidden down a laneway off Robe Street.
Smug One, from Scotland, is known for the realism of his works.
Zedr_One
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find out much about this next artist. However, the Wonder walls map says that he is South Australian. You can see more of Zedr_One’s work on his Instagram account.
In the photo below, I like the way the woman is looking disdainfully at the overflowing skip.
In the next picture, I’m in front of the other half of the art work.
SatOne
Rafael Gerlach, known as SatOne was born in Venezuela but moved to Germany at an early age. He prefers geometric forms.
Hart’s Mill Hoardings
There are several excellent works of art on the hoardings around Hart’s Mill. My favourite is the one in the middle, by Aboriginal artist, Scott Rathman.
Finally, after a tough morning of looking at over twenty-five Port Adelaide art walls, it was time to head for coffee at L.Law Cafe.
Map of Port Adelaide Wall Art
The map below draws from and then adds to one provided by the Port Adelaide Wonderwalls 2017 Festival. It is, however, by no means a conclusive map of every artwork within the Port. If you click on “View Full Version”, the map is interactive.
Another great loop ride around Port Adelaide takes you up to Outer Harbor and back down Semaphore Beach.
